StarScan is a platform designed to let you build interactive, dynamic professional contact profiles and share them instantly using QR codes, NFC (Near Field Communication) tags, and clean web links.
We value your trust and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy & Terms describes how StarScan (“we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your information when you use our mobile applications (iOS and Android), services, and website hosted at starscan.ai(collectively, the “Services”).

1. Information We Collect
To provide you with our smart contact-sharing services, we collect information directly from you, automatically when you use our app, and from third-party integrations:
- Account & Profile Information: When you sign up, we collect details to form your digital business card. This includes your name, email address, phone number, company name, job title, biographical details, and profile photo (when you sign up or scan your own card).
- Authentication Data: If you sign in using Apple or Google, we receive authorization details (such as your profile token, email, name, and profile picture URL) to verify your identity.
- Scanned & Scraped Connection Data: When you use our features to digitize other contacts, we process data from physical business cards (images or text parsed via on-device machine learning OCR), LinkedIn profiles (URLs and parsed details), QR codes, and NFC taps.
- Contacts and Notes: We store connections you save inside the app, including contact ratings, custom categories, date connected, notes you write about each contact, and the location where you met someone (only if you allow GPS).
- Device Token for Notifications: We collect your Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token to send you notification updates, such as requests when a connection wants to update their details.
- Device Permissions: Device permissions you grant to enable core features (Camera, NFC, Location, etc.).
2. Device Permissions We Request
StarScan requests specific permissions on your iOS or Android device to enable features. You can enable or disable these permissions at any time through your device settings:
- NFC (Near Field Communication): Required to write your profile link onto physical NFC cards/tags and read details from other NFC tags.
- Location Services (GPS): If granted, we record the geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) at the moment you scan a card or perform an NFC tap. This allows the app to show you a geographical map of where you met a contact.
- Camera: Required to scan QR codes, capture photographs of physical paper business cards, or take a profile picture.
- Photo Gallery Access: Required to allow you to select and upload existing images as your profile picture.
- SMS (OTP Auto-Fill): Used on compatible devices to automatically detect and auto-fill login/verification codes sent via SMS.
- Sensors: Accesses device sensors (like gyroscope or accelerometer) to provide interactive layout animations.
Note on Location Data: StarScan only queries your location with your active permission. Location data is resolved to a general area name (placemark) and logged with the scanned contact. We do not track your location continuously in the background.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect for the following business and operational purposes:
- To create, maintain, share, and personalize your public digital business card.
- To synchronize and save your saved connections across devices via your StarScan account.
- To process physical cards and images utilizing OCR technology (processed securely via Google Cloud Functions).
- To populate maps and location details showing where you met your contacts.
- To send friendly follow-up emails and generate Grok insights for your saved connections.
- To secure your account, prevent unauthorized access or fraud, and make the app work smoothly.
5. Data Storage, Security, and Retention
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase Services. We implement standard physical, technical, and administrative security controls to safeguard your data against loss, theft, alteration, or unauthorized access.
We retain your personal information for as long as you maintain an active StarScan account. If you request deletion of your account, we will purge your profile and associated data from our active databases.
6. Your Rights & Data Control
We believe in giving you complete, easy control over your data:
- Edit anything in the app at any time.
- One-tap “Delete My Account” in Settings → instantly deletes everything forever.
- Email support@starscan.ai for any request (we reply fast).
Account Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data directly from the settings panel inside the StarScan app. Alternatively, you can submit a deletion request by emailing us at support@starscan.ai. We will process your deletion request quickly.
7. Children's Privacy
StarScan is designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We do not allow or target users under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us immediately, and we will take steps to remove such data.

If we update this page, we will let you know. Any changes will be posted directly on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. Last updated June 19, 2026.
